Course profile

The Master of Science in Business Information Systems programme is divided into two streams:

  • Stream A - applicants with non-IT backgrounds; and
  • Stream B - applicants with IT backgrounds.

The programme aims to produce graduates who are able to develop business application systems, to work closely with computer professionals in the development of corporate information systems, to contribute effectively to the development of strategic systems plans and to evaluate business information systems technology for strategic advantage.

Prerequisite: 

Non-IT background:

  • Applicants must satisfy the following to be eligible for admission:

    hold a recognized Bachelor's degree in any subjects, preferably not in Information Systems or Computer Science related discipline, from one of the tertiary education institutions in Hong Kong funded by the University Grant Committee (UGC), or equivalent

IT background:

  • Applicants must satisfy the following to be eligible for admission:

    Hold a recognized Bachelor's degree in information systems (IS), information technology (IT), electronic commerce (EC), computer science (CS), or other disciplines but have passed at least four core courses related to the IS/IT/EC/CS disciplines, from one of the tertiary education institutions in Hong Kong funded by the University Grant Committee (UGC), or equivalent

Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English should also fulfill the following minimum English proficiency requirement:

  • TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test) or 79 (internet-based test); or
  • Overall band score of 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
  • Score 450 in the new College English Test (CET6) of Chinese mainland or a pass in the old CET-6 test; or
  • Other equivalent qualifications.
