During the writing and speaking portions of the IELTS exam, examiners are looking for ways to separate you from other candidates on their English levels. You need to show them that you have a higher level English than others.

One way to do that, is to have different ways of introducing examples.

Many people like to use ‘for example’ but this can be repetitive so you need to use other ways to express this idea.

Below is a list of ways to introduce examples.

In particular

 

Examples of how to use this are found below.

For instance, people really enjoy shopping as it relaxes their mind and body.

So try to use some of these instead of ‘for example’ when you are giving support for your ideas. Remember, this works for both writing and speaking.
